ARAB-BYZANTINE: Abd al-Malik, ca. 692-697. AE Fals (5.3 g). Al-Ruha Mint, ND, A-3538. The full obverse inscription surrounding the standing caliph "la ilaha illa Allah wahdahu Muhammad rasul Allah" ('There is no God but God alone; Muhammad is the messenger of God'). The normal inscription from this mint has only "Muhammad rasul Allah" ('Muhammad the Messenger of God'). Extremely Rare, probably the finest of only three known examples of this obverse type and the second example in private hands. Apparently, Goodwin knew of only the specimen in the ANS collection. Superb Extremely Fine. Estimated Value $1,500 - UP
