Central African Republic Banque des Etats de l'Afrique Centrale 1000 Francs ND (1974) Pick 2 PMG Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ. A very pretty note from the first series of notes issued by the Bank of the Central African States specifically for the Central African Republic. Colonel Jean-Bedel Bokassa overthrew the government of David Dacko, and after proclaiming himself president for life, he had his portrait added to the country's banknotes. Only a few years later, Bokassa proclaimed himself Emperor, and the country changed names. Volatility continued to plague the region, for years. As such, pack fresh banknotes from the early years of the Republic are scarce today, and widely collected. A simply excellent engraving of an African rhinoceros enhances the front of this note. https://currency.ha.com/itm/world-currency/central-african-republic-banque-des-etats-de-l-afrique-centrale-1000-francs-nd-1974-pick-2-pmg-gem-uncirculated/a/4025-28162.s?type=CoinArchivesCurrency4025 HID08706262019 © 2020 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
