India Government of India, Calcutta 1000 Rupees 26.2.1918 Pick A19Al Jhunjhunwalla-Razack 2A.7.2A.5 PMG Choice Fine 15 Net. A rarely seen Calcutta emission, featuring the signature of A.V.V. Aiyer and a 1918 date. The enormous face value and gigantic size of this banknote prevented the vast majority of issued notes from being saved for posterity. Additionally, for practical purposes, many 1000 Rupees notes were sliced in half, which aided transactions of smaller amounts and reduced the required change needed, which would now be based on a 500 Rupee base. This note has been sliced in two, but the two halves remained together and have now been rejoined. Spindle holes at issue and paper maker's notch are noted. Pleasing otherwise, and scarce. https://currency.ha.com/itm/world-currency/india-government-of-india-calcutta-1000-rupees-2621918-pick-a19al-jhunjhunwalla-razack-2a72a5-pmg-choice-fin/a/4025-28382.s?type=CoinArchivesCurrency4025 HID08706262019 © 2020 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
