Ireland - Republic (Eire) Currency Commission, National Bank Limited 5 Pounds 15.3.1933 Pick 27 PMG Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ. One of the most popular inter-war era banknotes for Europe, historically interesting and excessively rare in this elite grade. After Irish independence in 1922, the banknote issuers for Ireland "consolidated" and issued these plowman notes to circulate parallel with the Irish Free State notes featuring Lady Lavery. The front of each note features the bank from which the note was issued. At the time of cataloging, this is the finest graded example in the PMG Population Report for the type, tied with two others. All design elements are as fresh as the day this note was printed. In this grade, extremely rare, and currently impossible to find better. Interestingly, according to Bank of Ireland reports from 1984, only 6,559 £5 notes from 1929 to 1939 remain unaccounted for, across all eight issuers. https://currency.ha.com/itm/world-currency/ireland-republic-eire-currency-commission-national-bank-limited-5-pounds-1531933-pick-27-pmg-gem-uncirculat/a/4025-28431.s?type=CoinArchivesCurrency4025 HID08706262019 © 2020 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
