Philippines Banco Espanol Filipino 50 Pesos 1.1.1904 Pick A34r Remainder PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ. Living history is one of the many endearing aspects of numismatics, giving collectors the opportunity to hold a piece of paper or precious metal from a time long ago. This large format Remainder is exactly that, a relic from this storied Asian bank. The history of this bank began in 1851, as the Spanish-Filipino Bank of Isabel II. It was renamed El Banco Espanol Filipino in 1869, and was again renamed Bank of the Philippine Islands in 1912, as it remains today. After the Treaty of Paris 1898, the Spanish American War officially ended, and the Philippines was ceded to the United States. The Banco Espanol Filipino continued to operate under that namesake until it was Anglicized in 1912. This extremely rare, high denomination Remainder is by far the highest graded example in the PMG Population Report at the time of cataloging, with the only other note grading Very Fine 30. The green paper and extra wide left margin remain completely original, a feat that is seldom seen on Specimen from this era. A trio of perforated cancellations were applied to the body of the note. An incredible offering, extremely rare, and historically significant, as the early 1900s were a time of great change in the Philippines. https://currency.ha.com/itm/world-currency/philippines-banco-espanol-filipino-50-pesos-111904-pick-a34r-remainder-pmg-gem-uncirculated-65-epq/a/4025-28563.s?type=CoinArchivesCurrency4025 HID08706262019 © 2020 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
