Southern Rhodesia Southern Rhodesia Currency Board 5 Pounds 1.10.1945 Pick 11b PMG About Uncirculated 55. An utterly spectacular banknote in all respects, this example is especially desirable in this lofty grade. Only the briefest circulation and a small margin tear are mentioned on this otherwise beautiful King George VI portrait rarity. The 1939 type, lacking the white "£5" underprint, often gets all the fanfare, but this date is actually less common. In fact, no example grading above Very Fine 20 has been sold publicly for either 1944 or 1945 dated banknotes. The Southern Rhodesia Currency Board used a prefix scheme that ascended after every 100,000 banknotes. For this denomination, prefixes C/1 to C/40 were used across all dates from 1939 to 1955, meaning only four million notes were issued. At the time of cataloging, this note is the single finest graded example across every prefix and date in the range for both portrait types. An utterly superb banknote, featuring a very rare date in a superlative grade. https://currency.ha.com/itm/world-currency/southern-rhodesia-southern-rhodesia-currency-board-5-pounds-1101945-pick-11b-pmg-about-uncirculated-55/a/4025-28618.s?type=CoinArchivesCurrency4025 HID08706262019 © 2020 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
