GREAT BRITAIN. Elizabeth II, 1952-.
5 Pounds, 2019. The Royal Mint. Silver Proof Una & the Lion.
Proof 'Una & the Lion', using the original image from William Wyon's famous reverse design on the Victoria 5 Pound proof 1839.
The depiction of Victoria as Lady Una, calmly directing the enormous beast by her side, the Lion (representing England), was a clever analogy, using the characters from Edmund Spenser's poem The Faerie Queene (written in 1590). It was the first time in history a British monarch was depicted on a coin as a fictional character. This is one of the most successful Royal Mint modern releases; always in high demand.
