The obverse inscription is a reference to the "Five Blessings" (wufu) first mentioned in the ancient Chinese classic known as the "Book of History." The "Five Blessings" include wealth (fu), longevity (shou), health and composure (kangning), virtue (xiu hao de), and the desire to die a natural death in old age (kao zhong ming). The reverse is a traditional well-wish for newlyweds. Likely cast as a wedding gift in the Qing dynasty.
