THAI KINGDOMS:Mitch-2803/5, Opitz-pg. 354, Krisadaolarn/Mihailovs-pg. 65,Plate B01, LOT of 6 Tok Nan coins cast in the 17th-18th centuries by the Lanna Kingdom, all with a single piercing except one; weights are 54.79g, 64.84g, 68.62g, 64.94g, 71.91g, and 71.35g; average quality examples, retail value $300, lot of 6 items, ex Charles Opitz Collection. Commonly known as a Tok of Nan, these were made for a long time during the 17th to 19th centuries. They are silver, and while the exact alloy is not known, there is a good silvery appearance where the oxidation is rubbed through, so there is a relatively high silver content. The dark color on one side, and golden red color on the other side, are due to oxidation that occurred then they were cast. There is a common story that the golden color comes from an egg being broken into the mold prior to casting, but we do not believe there is any truth in that.

Estimate: 200-300 USD
