UMAYYAD: AE fals (3.28g), Madinat Ma'dan Amir al-Mu'minin, ND (ca. 735-745), A-A183, W-349, typical crude style for this mint, but from finely engraved dies, VF. The mint was probably located at or near al-Rusafa in eastern Syria, where the Umayyad caliphs maintained an important palace. Coins of this mint are of the eastern Syrian style, and have mainly been found in the region around Rusafa (now called Resafa, about 30 miles southwest of Raqqa).
