GREAT BRITAIN: AR medal (120.14g), ND, cf. BHM-870; Eimer-1067a, 63mm, The Battle of Waterloo silver medal by B. Pistrucci, Twentieth Century Reproduction by J. Pinches. A reduced-size version of the original medal produced to honor the leaders of the countries involved in the defeat of Napoleon on the 175th Anniversary of their victory. The incredible detail of the massive 133mm original, which was never actually struck, is reproduced in a more manageable format. The obverse features laureate draped busts of Britain's Prince Regent (later King George IV), Austria's Emperor Franz I, Russia's Emperor Alexander I, and Prussia's King Friedrich Wilhelm III surrounded by a border of mythological figures symbolizing the return of peace. On the reverse 19 battling mermen symbolizing 19 years of war, encircling Victory with the Duke of Wellington and Prussian Field Marshal Blücher riding in Roman armor. Neither side of this ornate design bears any legend or inscription, the sculptor having intended the legend WATERLOO. JUNE 18, 1815 to appear on the edge. Also, the serial number 0363 and maker's mark are on the edge, with case of issue and certificate of authenticity. The obverse displays light tone with rich grey in the crevasses while the reverse exhibits more of the same rich grey amongst the devices throughout. A fully original handsome example sure to be a welcome addition to the next collection it enters, About Unc.

Estimate: 200-300 USD
