SWEDEN: Karl XII, 1697-1718, AR medal (66.61g), 1706, 52mm silver medal by Arvid Karlsteen, Victory in the Battle of Fraustadt; CAROLVS XII D G REX SVECIAE, armored bust of Charles right with folded robe // DE SCHVLENBVRGIO above trophy made of Russian and Saxon shields, DVCTV REHNSKIOLDII / AD FRAVSTATT / DIE 3 FEBR / A 1706 in exergue, EF. The Battle of Fraustadt was fought between Sweden and Saxony-Poland and their Russian allies near Fraustadt (now Wschowa) in Poland. During the Battle of Fraustadt on February 3, King August II was only 120 km away, with a cavalry force about 8,000 men strong. That was one of the main reasons that Swedish General Count Carl Gustav Rehnskiöld hurried to engage Marshal Johann Matthias Reichsgraf von der Schulenburg at the head of the Saxon arny. The battle is an example of a successful pincer movement and was one of Sweden's greatest victories in the Great Northern War.
