TANG: Anonymous, 732-907, AE cash (4.78g), H-14.8u, kai yuan tong bao, crescent above on reverse, cast in "white metal", so-called bái tóng type, VF, ex Jim Farr Collection. Baitong "white metal" coins during the Tang dynasty itself were given the nickname "pure coins" (qing qián) which also became the basis for the nickname of "pure coin scholar" (qing qián xué shì) which was given to Emperor Gaozong as his writings were said to resemble the coins.
