KOREA: Goryeo, 935-1392, AE mum (3.77g), H-25.67, dong guk tong bo, cast from 1097, VF. King Sukjong of Goryeo created a new monetary system based on round copper-alloy coins with square holes. The coins were produced bearing the inscriptions dong guk "Eastern Country", hae dong "East of the Sea", and sam han (the collective name of the Byeonhan, Jinhan, and Mahan confederacies).
