OTTOMAN EMPIRE: Selim I, 1512-1520, AV sultani (3.48g), Mawsil (Mosul), AH922, A-1314, Damali-MU-A1-922, bold strike, choice VF to EF, RRR. The only example of the Mawsil mint for Selim I recorded on CoinArchives was sold in our Auction 35, but this piece is far superior. Mawsil was conquered by the Ottomans from the Safavids, under the command of Biyikli Mehmed Pasha, during the year AH922.
