SAFAVID: Tahmasp I, 1524-1576, AV ½ mithqal (2.29g), Shahabad, AH981, A-N2593, "8" of date obscured by one of two raised pellets, similar to the silver coins dated 979 of this mint, probably unpublished in gold, VF to EF, RRR, ex Dabestani Collection. Shahabad was the birthplace of Shah Tahmasp I, located in the region of Isfahan, so far reported only for silver coins dated AH979 (e.g., in our Auction 25, Lot 714).
