CENTRAL EUROPEAN CELTS. Pannonia (Burgenland). Second to first century BC. Silver tetradrachm (12.64 gm). Kroisbach type variant. Male head left with flowing hair / Crested rider on horseback left, only upper body shown, torque below. Unpublished in the scholarly literature. See Freeman & Sear FPL 11, 3. Lightly toned. Extremely fine
This variety was completely unknown prior to its appearance in Gorny & Mosch 141 (10 October 2005) where it sold for nearly $12,000. It combines the reverse type associated with the Kroisbach issues with a somewhat degraded version of the "Apollo" head obverse of the West Norican tetradrachm series.
