Gupta Dynasty, Chandragupta II (Vikramaditya) (375-415 AD), Gold Dinar, "Lion Slayer" type, Obv: the king standing, is seen mid-hunt, wearing a dhoti and a cap with a pearl string, holding a bow in the right hand with the left releasing the bowstring, the lion is facing the king and seen falling backwards probably with an arrow in its mouth, Brahmi legend "Narandra chandrah Prathitarano (Rane Jayatyajayyo Bhuvi Sinha Vi)kramah" around the field, Rev: nimbate, goddess Ambika-Lakshmi, seen wearing jewelry on her ears, seated in Vamardhaparyanka pose on couchant Lion to left, the goddess is seen holding a diadem and cornucopia in her hands, Brahmi legend "(Si)mhavikramah" on the right field, 7.49g, 18.69mm, (Altekar, Bayana Hoard # Pl. XVII-13/BMC # Pl. VIII-13/TOTGE, S. Kumar # Class III-Var. B.2), choice very fine, Exceedingly Rare.


Note: Only a handful of pieces are known of this type, probably 8-10 pieces from few collections. Obverse legend in Brahmi reads "Narandra Chandrah Prathitarano Rane Jayatyajayyo Bhuvi Sinha Vikramah" means moon among the kings, famous for his martial prowess, and victorious on the battlefield.
