Sergia 1. M. Sergius Silus (ca. 116-115 BC) Head of Roma r., ex sc before, roma and * behind, Rev. m. sergi below horseman galloping l., holding sword and head of barbarian, Q beloq horses leg, silus in ex. Syd. 534 VF+ The inscription shows that Silus issued these coins in his official capacity as quaestor and under the direct mandate of the senate. The reverse alludes to the bravery of his grandfather of the same name, who distinquished himself during the second punic war. He lost his right arm and received twenty-three wounds, but still continued fighting. He had made for himself a right arm of iron.
