Foreign Medals, France, Louis XIV (1638-1643-1715), Dedication of the statue of Louis XIV in the Place des Victoires, Paris, copper medal, 1686, signed R [Roettiers], laureate and armoured bust r., LVDOVICVS MAGNVS REX CHRISTIANISSIMVS, rev. the statue of the standing King crowned by Victory, atop a a plinth inscribed VIRO IMMORTALI, legend around, PATRI EXERCITVVM ET - DVCTORI SEMPER FELICI, 64.5mm. (Jacquoit III, p.433, première médaille), obverse shows signs of a breaking die, but a choice early striking and edge without poinçon, extremely fine
The Place des Victoires (later and still the Place Vendôme) was designed by Hardouin-Mansart. The statue was destroyed in 1792.
