The T. R. Hardaker Collection, Foreign Coins, Ancient India, uninscribed die-struck copper coin, Vidarbha region, c.200-100 BC (pre-Satavahana period), elephants anointing an arrowhead within a railing, rev. bull walking r., wt. 7.68gms., very fine and rare, an attractive coin
The symbol of 'arrowhead within a railing' was found on a seal attributed to 'Asika Janapada' excavated at Adam, near the more famous ancient site of Pauni. It is plausible that it denotes a primordial reference to Shri, the goddess of plenitude and is, therefore, seen here in the 'anointing by elephants' format.
