MYSIA, Lampsakos. Circa 200-150 BC. AR Drachm (19mm, 3.73 g, 12h). Laureate head of Apollo Kitharoidos right / Priapos, holding filleted thyrsos over shoulder and kantharos, advancing right; monogram to inner right; [Λ]AMΨA-KHNΩN at sides. Unpublished in the standard references. Toned, with some blue iridescence, flan crack, porous. VF. Extremely rare.
This issue of drachms likely were struck concurrent to the late Hellenistic tetradrachms of Lampsakos featuring Priapos on the obverse and Apollo Kitharoidos on the reverse. The monogram here was also used on the tetradrachms (cf. Triton VIII, lot 379 = Sotheby's, 28 January 1986, lot 31).
