EGYPT, Alexandria. Hadrian. AD 117-138. Æ Drachm (32.5mm, 21.47 g, 12h). Dated RY 15 (AD 130/131). Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / Hadrian, holding scepter and branch(?), in quadriga right, being hailed by Alexandria standing facing before the horses; L IE (date) in exergue. Köln 1037; Dattari (Savio) 1595; K&G 32.510; RPC III 5780; Emmett 966.15. Dark brown patina with touches of green and light earthen highlights/deposits, light scratches on the highpoints. VF.

An extensive series of billon and bronze issues mark Hadrian's triumphant tour of Egypt in AD 130. The trip was marred by the tragic and mysterious death of Hadrian's young companion Antinous on their boat trip up the Nile.
