NORMAN. William I 'the Conqueror'. 1066-1087. AR Penny (20mm, 1.32 g, 9h). Paxs type (BMC viii). Hastings mint; Cipinc, moneyer. Struck circa 1083-1086. Crowned facing bust, holding scepter; trefoil on right shoulder / + CIPINCC ON IIST, cross pattée; letters of P A X S in annulets within quarters. SCBI 42 (South-Eastern), 1806-8 (same obv. die); BMC 695 (same dies?); North 850; SCBC 1257. Toned, slightly wavy flan, struck from worn and rusted dies. Fine.
