The Continental Exhibition was organized by the Industrial Club of Buenos Aires under the patronage of General Roca, President of the Republic of Argentina. The second half of the 19th century saw a rapid acceleration in the industrialization of the countries. The Industrial Club wanted to highlight the efforts undertaken to develop the country's industry and mitigate the effects of dependence on Europe. This fair was inaugurated on March 15th, 1882 and was the second to take place in Argentina after the exposition of 1877 and only the fourth for the entire South American continent.
