GREAT BRITAIN. George III, 1760-1820. Silvered medal 1815 by Benedetto Pistrucci. 138 mm. The Great Medal of Waterloo. Obv. Conjoined, laureate and draped busts left of George, the Prince Regent, Francis II of Austria, Tsar Alexander I and Friedrich Wilhelm III of Prussia; Apollo drives quadriga above, allegorical, and mythological scenes around. Rev. Victory advances left, guiding the equestrian figures of Wellington and Blücher, each clad in Roman dress; Jupiter drives a quadriga above, battle of giants in border around. Eimer 1067. Made in two halves by the electrotype process and joined to make a single medal. The dies of the medal were never hardened and these Victorian electrotypes are the nearest one can get to an original Waterloo medal.
