Only about 30 specimens known. Original copper roubles were minted in the Sestroretsk arsenal, district of St Petersburg, in 1770 and 1771. The original minting project was quickly abandoned due to the extraordinary production costs. Few novodels (restrikes) have been produced in the years 1840-1850 with original dies and new collar, like our coin. It is truly a Russian numismatic monument, of an exceptional weight and size equivalent to the value of a rouble in silver under the reign of Catherine II.
