Ex. Collection Etienne Page, Vinchon auction, 4-5 oct. 1989, lot 25; Ex. Palombo auction 15, 22 oct. 2016, lot 41. 4400 CHF + bp.//The Temple of Vesta is one of the most sacred buildings in ancient Rome. It is the holder of the sacred protective fire of the Urbs and of all Romans. The College of Vestals was responsible for the protection and maintenance of the fire and was the only permanent religious college. Although destroyed on numerous occasions, this temple has retained its monopteros form with each reconstruction. The temple was definitively closed in 391 by Theodosius I without leading to its destruction. Chronicles attest to its presence until the 1550s.
