SWITZERLAND. Swiss Confederation Loans Fund. 25 Francs 9 September 1914. Series 1A, serial number 008679. Richter DK1a; Pick 23. VF
Minor tears, strong folds.
At the beginning of WWI, the Swiss confederation took financial measures to fight the war's effects on their currency. They printed of banknotes in the denominations of 5, 10 and 20 Francs of the Federal Funds to replace the small change which was being hoarded.
As the national stock exchange was closed during the War, the Confederation also created a loan fund, where people could temporarily exchange their shares and bonds for these 25 Francs banknotes. A similar process also occurred in Germany.
