Ex. Hess-Divo auction 327, 22 oct. 2014, lot 136.
Well struck with luster. Decius was born in 201 AD in the Sirmium region. He was part of this long line of emperor-soldiers of the 3rd century, born in the Illyrian margins of the Empire. He added the cognomen of Trajan to his title in order to underline the glorious times of the empire and to turn the page of these troubled times. To achieve this he undertook a policy of urban construction, the most seen since the time of the Severan (reparations of the Colosseum, construction of a portico and thermal baths.) in conjunction with this ambitious program of major works. He pursued the conservative orientation of the imperial policy initiated by Pupienus and Balbinus by issuing a monetary series exalting the traditional virtues of the principate (Pietas, Pudicitia, Uberitas ...).
