CHINA. Qing (Ch'ing) Dynasty. Tianxia Tai Ping. Palace Charm, ND (ca. 1875). Emperor De Zong (Guang Xu). EXTREMELY FINE.
Hartill-26.3. Weight: 37.33 gms. Large size. Obverse: "Guang Xu tong bao"; Reverse: "Tian Xia Tai Ping" (Heaven below Great Peace - Peace on Earth). The handsomely designed rims were tastefully engraved exhibiting artistry and craftsmanship that is most appropriate for its intended purpose. The open fields display a naturally rough surface texture as normally found on higher grade currency issue Cash pieces, though a few small areas show signs of being expertly smoothed mentioned for accuracy. Also mentioned is that the edge exhibits file marks all the way around the circumference with a small area the does not have any file marks and shows a rough texture, which is indicative of being a later made piece. A very attractive example displaying rich brassy and brown patina with minor earthen deposits amongst the devices adding to its originality and eye appeal worthy of a premium bid.

With an old collectors 2.5 x 2.5 cardboard holder indicating that it was purchased 7/10-11/71.

Estimate: $1000.00- $1500.00
