CHINA. Dollar, ND (1916). NGC AU-58.
L&M-945, K-664a, KM-Pn52, WS-0096, Wenchao-1101. Variety with tall plume on hat that nearly touches the rim. A VERY RARE variety of this classic type, which lacks the refinement of the standard issue, showing instances of heavy die lines in the fields as well as some micro-pimples, which are mostly confined to the recesses of the designs. Closer inspection confirms that the overall sharpness is less than that of L&M-942, while the reverse shows clear die doubling in many of the characters as well as components of the dragon design. This example, which just misses the Mint State tier, maintains exceptional eye appeal for the grade, with shallow reflective qualities in the fields and pale gold and purple tone over the surfaces; there are scarcely few marks or signs of handling to mention on either side. All considered, a prime opportunity for the collector seeking completeness to acquire a very presentable example of this seldom-seen issue.

Estimate: $25000.00- $35000.00
