CHINA. Hunan-Soviet. Countermarked 20 Cash, ND (1931). NGC Genuine.
An intriguing issue, characterized by a hammer and sickle design inside a 5-sided star countermark. As always appears to be the case, the mark was applied to a well-circulated 20 Cash coin, which happens to be an undated (1903) Empire-era 'Hu Poo' 20 Cash in this case. While few of these issues have appeared on the market, this piece is as nice as any, with the stamp displaying incredibly bold detail. A RARE piece allegedly found among bags of Chinese coppers that were being melted by the Japanese during WWII; in total, it is believed that around 100 were found out of 30,000 coins.
Estimate: $500.00- $750.00
