CHINA. German Occupation. Defense of Tsingtau Silver Medal, 1914. PCGS PROOF-62 Gold Shield.
Zetzmann-4060. By A. Hummel at Lauer's in Nuremberg. Obverse: Nude male soldier standing left, holding sword and German colonial standard; fallen warriors around and behind; Reverse: Legend in six lines within oak wreath. An interesting and SCARCE medal at the crossroads of German colonialism, World War I, and an emerging China. Quite deeply toned, with a good deal of brilliance and only lightly scattered marks.
