(t) CHINA. Chekiang. Silver 3.6 Candareens (5 Cents) Pattern, ND (1902). Heaton Mint. PCGS SPECIMEN-66 Gold Shield.
L&M-281; K-123l; KM-Pn4. INCREDIBLY RARE and majestic, this superlative Gem minor offers a rather intense array of iridescent toning, especially upon the characters side. A melange of cobalt, burgundy, and goldenrod creates spectacular eye appeal, with the hues becoming even darker near the peripheries. Surpassed in the PCGS census by just two specimens, this piece presents a great opportunity for the connoisseur of special Chinese issues.

It is interesting to note that the all of the necessary minting equipment to produce the coinage of this pattern series was supplied by the Heaton Mint of Birmingham, but was not utilized to place silver into circulation. There is however evidence that the minting equipment was used to some degree as 10 Cash identical to the design procured from Birmingham. Another interesting aspect is that since these issues were initially designed by foreigners the spelling of the provincial name as "CHE-KIANG" instead of "CHEHKIANG" which was the modified English inscription and later the standard spelling.

Estimate: $80000.00- $120000.00
