CHINA. Hunan Soviet. 20 Cash, ND (1931). NGC Genuine.
An intriguing issue, characterized by a hammer and sickle design inside a 5-sided star countermark. As always appears to be the case, the mark was applied to a well-circulated 20 Cash coin, which happens to be an undated (1931) Republic-era Hunan 20 Cash in this case (cf. KM-Y-400.7). The host coin is corroded with several planchet flaws. It is claimed that these were once found among bags of Chinese coppers that were being melted by the Japanese during WWII; in total, it is believed that around 100 were found out of 30,000 coins.
