Burma - 2 Mu 1 Pe CS1228 (1866), Gold, MINDON 1853–1878 Chinthe left, year below. Rev. value within wreath.Fr. 5; KM. 20.Mindon Min was the second last king of the Konbaung dynasty. Having overthrown his half brother King Pagan with his younger brother Kanaung, he spent most of his reign defending the upper part of the country from British troops as well as modernizing his country. Apart from being responsible for many reforms, he was also responsible for the first machine-struck coins.

This and the smaller denomination both feature the mythical Chinthe. A leogryph commonly seen guarding the entrances of temples. This scarce type has a few handling marks but still retains much of its brilliance.2.78 g. NGC AU58
