Norway - 4 Mark / Krone 1700, Silver, FREDERIK IV 1699–1730 Kongsberg mint. Armored bust right. Rev. three shields divided by three crowned monograms. Sieg 7; KM. 200.2.In 1699 the Great Northern War had broken out between Sweden and Russia in which the future of Scandinavia would be decided. Although the Swedish king Charles XII was young and untested and was greatly outnumbered, his surprisingly brilliant leadership earned him significant successes. Shortly after he inflicted a crushing defeat on the Russian army at Narva, driving the invaders completely out of Sweden. It was only after the Swedish counterattack was halted at Poltava in 1709 that Frederick IV joined the war against Sweden once again. Charles XII attacked Norway in 1716, only to be shot in battle, perhaps by an assassin, in 1718.17.23 g. RRR. Extremely rare Ex mount, cleaned Fine +
