Assam, Gaurinatha Simha (1780-95), octagonal 1/32-Rupees (9), undated, different dies, with varying symbols by obverse legend Sri Gau (RB. R132.1; KM. 190, 191, 193), very fine or better, very rarely offered, but a crucial part of any Assam collection (9).
Ex. Nicholas Rhodes Collection
The striking of small 1/32-Rupees was an innovation introduced towards the end of Gaurinatha's reign, when he was based at Dichoi. Their purpose was said to be for making small charitable donations as there was a shortage of cowries.
Estimate: £60 - £80
