Akbar, Fathpur Mint, Gold Mohur, AH 986, Obv: Arabic legends, The Kalima Shahada within a foliated border, the four Caliphs' names in the margins, Rev: Persian legends "Jalal ud din Muhammad Akbar Badshah Ghazi" &zarb Fathpur at the bottom within a foliated border, 10.9g, 22.00mm, (KM # 110.1), choice extremely fine, Extremely Rare.



Note: Akbar founded this town in AH 976 and shifted his capital from Agra to Fathepur Sikri, which is about 40 kilometers from Agra, this place was used as his capital from 1571 to 1585 AD. It was also the adobe of the famous Saint Sheikh Salim Chishti who was greatly revered by Akbar and after whom Jahangir was named. Although the mint was in operation for a few years and issued gold, silver, and copper coins regularly from AH 985-989. The square rupees struck at the mint are often seen, the gold coins, both round, and square are fairly rare. This round specimen is a one-year type, struck only in AH 986 (1577 AD).
