KYRENAICA. Kyrene. Magas, as Ptolemaic Governor, first reign, circa 300-282/75 BC. Didrachm (Silver, 20 mm, 7.79 g, 12 h), Ipo..., magistrate. Head of Karneios to left, with ram's horn over his ear. Rev. KY-PA Silphium plant with three pair of leaves and fruits; to upper left, monogram of IΠΟ. BMC -, cf. pl. XXIII, 1-2 (monogram to upper right). SNG Copenhagen -, cf. 239 (monogram to upper right and with a coiled serpent to upper left). A very rare variety. Clear and attractive, and with a lovely head of Karneios. Good very fine.
