CALABRIA. Tarentum. Circa 465-455 BC. Didrachm or Nomos (Silver, 20 mm, 7.88 g, 10 h). TAPAS Youthful oikist, nude, riding dolphing to left, extending both hands; below, scallop shell. Rev. Hippocamp with curved wing to left. Basel 75 (this coin). Cahn, Chronology, p. 65 (this coin). Fischer-Bossert 109v and pl. 6, 109 (this coin, V56/R71). HN Italy -. SNG Lockett 124 (this coin). Vlasto 133 (same dies). Rare and with an illustrious pedigree. A lightly toned and very well centered example of splendid late Archaic style. Slightly rough, otherwise, good very fine.
