BRUTTIUM. The Brettii. Circa 211-208 BC. Double Unit - Didrachm (Bronze, 28 mm, 16.75 g, 8 h). Bearded head of Ares to left, wearing crested Corinthian helmet decorated with a griffin springing left over stars on the bowl; below, thunderbolt. Rev. BPETTIΩN Athena advancing right, holding large oval shield with both hands; spear leaning against her left shoulder; in field to right, owl flying facing. HN Italy 1987. Scheu 40. A beautiful example with an impressive head of Ares and a lovely brown patina. Good very fine.
