BRUTTIUM. Terina. Circa 420-400 BC. Didrachm or Nomos (Silver, 20 mm, 7.77 g, 11 h). TEPINAION Head of the nymph Terina to right, wearing pearl necklace and with her hair bound in a sphendone. Rev. Nike seated left on cippus, wearing kiton and himation, holding flapping bird on her outstretched right hand and placing her left on cippus. Holloway & Jenkins -, cf. 65 (same obverse die) and 62 (for reverse). HN Italy 2617. Regling 67. SNG ANS 840 (same dies). A lightly toned, beautiful and superb piece. A few light marks and a very minor graffito on the reverse, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.

From the Kleinkunst Collection, ex Numismatica Ars Classica 40, 16 May 2007, 231, Numismatica Ars Classica 8, 3 April 1995, 108 and Leu 18, 5 May 1977, 45.

Nike, on the reverse of this coin, is lacking all the fatigue from lot 50 above: rather, she is shown in a playful, almost girly posture with a flapping bird on her outstretched right hand, forming a most charming contrast to the rather severe nymph Terina on the obverse.
