SICILY. Syracuse. Hieron II, 275-215 BC. AE (Bronze, 27 mm, 16.46 g, 2 h), circa 230-218/5. Diademed head of Hieron II to left; behind, poppy head (?). Rev. IEPΩNOΣ Cavalryman charging on horseback to right, holding couched lance in his right hand; below, Φ. Basel 535 (this coin). BMC 597. CNS II, 195 Ds 90 R1 35. An exceptional example with a fine dark green patina and a superb portrait. Minor deposits, otherwise, extremely fine.
