KINGS OF THRACE. Lysimachos, 305-281 BC. Stater (Gold, 19 mm, 8.52 g, 12 h), Kalchedon, circa 205-190. Diademed head of Alexander the Great to right with horn of Ammon over his ear. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ - ΛΥΣΙΜΑΧΟΥ Athena seated left, holding Nike, crowning the king's name, in her right hand and leaning with her left arm on shield decorated with lion's head; behind, transverse spear; in inner left field, monogram; in exergue, bull to left, head facing, and ΘPA. CNG 58 (2001), 370 (same dies). Müller 358 var. (differing monogram and without ΘPA on the reverse). Seyrig, Byzance et de Calcédoine, p. 196 and pl. 25, 26 var. (same obverse die, but differing monogram and without ΘPA on the reverse). Very rare. A lovely piece of bold Hellenistic style. With a faint scratch on the obverse and a small cut on the edge, otherwise, extremely fine.
