KINGS OF ARMENIA MINOR. Mithradates (?), circa 180s-170s BC. Chalkous (Bronze, 13 mm, 2.00 g, 2 h). Draped bust of Mithradates (?) to left, bearded and wearing upright bashlyk tied with a diadem; around, uncertain Aramaic legend. Rev. Draped female bust to right. Kovacs -. Cf. Leu 5 (2019), 178 (for overtype). Extremely rare and of great interest. Heavy traces of overstriking, otherwise, very fine.
From an important collection of Armenian coins.
What makes this coin particularly interesting is that it is an overstrike of the crude 'king & queen' type (Leu 5, 178) over Kovacs 27 (see below, lot 1353), thus confirming the sequence of issues.
