PHRYGIA. Siblia. Pseudo-autonomous issue. Diassarion (Orichalcum, 24 mm, 6.18 g, 7 h), Menodotos and Aliane. Time of Caracalla, 211-217. ΔHMOC Laureate head of the Demos to right, with slight drapery on his left shoulder. Rev. ΠAPA MHNOΔOTOY KAI AIΛIANC / CЄIBΛI-ANΩN Dionysos standing front, head to left, holding kantharos in his right hand and thyrsos in his left. BMC 2 = Martin, Siblia 1 = von Aulock, Phrygien I, 867 (same dies). Of the highest rarity, apparently the second and finest known example. Very well centered and with an attractive green patina. Extremely fine.
The reverse states that this beautiful issue was paid for by Menodotos and Aliane, who were likely man and wife, and perhaps priest and priestess.
