Marcus Aurelius, 161-180. Sestertius (Orichalcum, 34 mm, 31.29 g, 6 h), Rome, 170. M ANTONINVS AVG TRP XXIIII Laureate and draped bust of Marcus Aurelius to right, seen from behind. Rev. COS III / ADLOCVT AVG / S C Marcus Aurelius, with two attendants behind him, standing left on platform, holding spear in his left hand and raising his right hand toward three soldiers standing below platform, each holding aquila in their right hands. BMC 1372. Cohen 1 var. (differing bust type). RIC -, cf. 973 (bust cuirassed). Very rare. A beautiful example of this interesting issue with a lovely green patina. Very fine.
