Theodosius II, 402-450. Solidus (Gold, 21 mm, 4.39 g, 6 h), Constantinopolis, 402. D N THEODO-SIVS P F AVG Pearl-diademed, helmeted and cuirassed bust of Theodosius II facing, his head turned slightly to right, holding spear in his right hand and with a shield, decorated with a horseman spearing a fallen foe, over his left shoulder. Rev. CONCORDI-A AVGG Є / CONOB Constantinopolis, helmeted and head to right, seated facing on throne, holding scepter in her right hand and Victory globe in her left and placing her right foot on a prow; in field to left, star. Depeyrot 55/3 var. (unlisted officina). RIC 9 var. (unlisted officina). An unpublished variety of a very rare issue. Sharply struck and lustrous. Good extremely fine.
